A
Touch of Silk, Inc. Partners with Extreme Home Makeover! |
| |
The Skaggs Family lives in
Slaughterville, a small community south of Norman, Ok. They had purchased
a home with the intent to fix it up at some point.
Brian Skaggs is a cattle rancher and his wife, Audra is a teacher.
Their youngest child, Jhett, was born with a defective heart and had
a heart transplant before the age of 1. He is very sensitive to molds,
cleansers, bacteria, etc. Because of the medical bills, the family
was unable to make improvements to the house and it was in a sad state
of disrepair. In stepped Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition and Ideal
Homes.
We had heard about the project and went to their website to see what
items they might still need. Silk plants were on the list, so we left
an email for the designers. Several days passed, but they finally
called us on Friday at 11:00 and needed 12 pots of brightly blooming
flowers for Jhett's room, also known as "The Dinosaur Room".
We quickly made the 12 pots of multi-colored tweedia bushes and drove
them to the site the next day. We were'nt allowed to go into the house-only
the crew and volunteers working on site are permitted. We were able
to get close to the house and visit with the builder, Gene McKown.
It was an amazing process! Some of our regular customers were responsible
for installing the furniture and accessories in the home, so there
are several other pieces that we made for those customers that ended
up in the Skaggs home.
What a privilege to be able to be a part of an event like this one-it
truly makes you appreciate your home, your life and all the great
people who are there to help--all you have to do is ask!! |
